Built from ruins. Designed for groups.
What started as a family home in the Douro Verde became, by choice, the only fully private estate for groups of up to 32, one hour from Porto.
It started room by room. It didn't stay that way.
In 2014, Rui and Elizabete bought a ruin in the Douro Verde to build a family home. In 2016, they opened it to guests, room by room, like any other rural accommodation.
In 2020, a pandemic forced them to accept groups only. The whole property, one booking at a time. No strangers. What started as a restriction turned out to be the product.
In 2022, they chose to make it permanent. Eight rooms and suites became ten. The estate gained a heated indoor saltwater pool, spa and padel. The format, one group, full exclusivity, never changed.
Most groups arrive through someone who has already been here.
What defines the estate
Everything the group needs, without leaving the property.
The Douro Verde
One hour from Porto. Direct views of the River Douro, surrounded by vineyards. Complete seclusion without complicating the logistics of getting there. The flight lands, and an hour later the group is at the property.
Four hectares of vineyard
The estate is set amongst four hectares of working vineyards. Wine tastings and cellar tours are available through local partners.
One group at a time
The estate is reserved exclusively for one group per stay. Up to 32 guests. No other bookings, no shared spaces, no strangers. The whole property is yours.
Ten rooms and suites
Ten suites designed for comfort across generations. Nine configurable between double or twin. Capacity for up to 32 guests with additional beds on request.
SPA, pool and padel
Heated indoor saltwater pool, open year-round. Sauna, hammam, hydromassage column, massage room and gym. Padel court. No booking required for pool or spa access.
Chef at the estate
Meals prepared on-site, on request. Lunch or dinner for the full group, without restaurant reservations, without splitting up. Requires booking eight days in advance.
The estate in winter
Most estates in the Douro Verde slow down between October and April. Quinta de Cabanas doesn't. The heated indoor saltwater pool runs year-round. The spa is open. In the evenings, the fireplace is lit and the Douro wines are local. Outside, the vineyards and the river don't require sunshine to be worth looking at. For groups travelling from Northern Europe, this is the season that makes most sense. Fewer crowds, lower noise, the same estate, entirely yours.
About Us
Quinta de Cabanas Douro Country House
A story of family, vision, and legacy. Quinta de Cabanas was born in 2014 from the desire of Rui and Elizabete to breathe new life into a ruined house and abandoned land, initially creating a haven for family and friends. In 2016, they embraced the challenge of entering the world of rural tourism, leaving behind their careers in information technology to fully dedicate themselves to hospitality.
Following the enthusiastic reception from their first guests, they pursued specialized training in Hotel Management and Culinary Production, preparing to elevate the experience offered. In 2022, they began a major expansion and modernization project, transforming the estate into a 4-star rural hotel in terms of comfort and quality—while preserving its exclusive, group-only format.
Today, Quinta de Cabanas is more than a house: it’s an emerging wine tourism destination, with 4 hectares of vineyard, and an infrastructure designed to host unforgettable events, weddings, and corporate retreats. Nestled in the heart of the Douro Verde, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and panoramic views of the Douro River, it is the perfect sanctuary for those seeking peace, authenticity, and connection to nature.
